When it arrived, I was a bit concerned as it had not been packed properly and the Asus box was loose inside a bigger Amazon box. However, when I opened it up all seemed to be well. I swiched it on and found the battery was partly charged. It started up properly and within 10 minutes it had found my home network, and I was surfing the Internet on it.
It is a beautiful little machine with a very bright crisp screen which has a proper matt finish and so avoids reflections, unlike the Acer. So far everything on board has worked OK except for the sound. There is clearly a software problem with the sound system as stereo recordings generate some very odd effects. Mono ones are fine.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? I need to spend a bit of time sorting it out.
The screen lives up to the Asus “zero defects” guarantee.
I have bought it primarily to store and view photos taken away from home. The big disk and good screen make it ideal for this plus the size and weight mean I can carry in my camera bag with my Nikon and its lenses.
The keyboard is OK but a bit small for anything other than short notes which is fine when travelling. I have bought a wireless keyboard and mouse for use at home.
This is a great little machine at any price, but for only $293 it is amazing.
